About Will Greaves

Dr. Will Greaves was elected Member of Parliament for Victoria in April 2025. He serves on the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and the Standing Committee on National Defence.

The son and grandson of diplomats in Canada’s foreign service, Will was born in Ottawa and raised there and overseas in Latin America and the Caribbean. He has been passionate about history, politics, and the environment from a young age, and completed his education at Bishop’s University (B.A.), the University of Calgary (M.A.), and the University of Toronto (Ph.D.). In 2017, he was hired as a political science professor at the University of Victoria and received tenure in 2023. An award-winning educator, researcher, and academic leader, Will’s research focuses on international security, climate change, and Arctic politics. Will has written more than 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and has three books: Canadian Ecopolitics (2025), Breaking Through: Understanding Sovereignty and Security in the Circumpolar Arctic (2021), and One Arctic: The Arctic Council and Circumpolar Governance (2017).

Will is active in his community and has served on the Capital Regional District (CRD) Arts Advisory Council, as an executive on his strata council, and as a member of the Liberal riding association in Victoria. He is grateful to live with his wife and daughter in a quiet beach community on southern Vancouver Island in the traditional territories of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples. In his spare time, he likes to bike, cook, sauna, pet dogs, and walk in the woods.
